My career has been varied. The common thread running through all the jobs I have done is working face to face with the general public.
For eleven years I worked for Nottingham City Council in finance and housing. My interest in social housing grew and I naturally moved to being a Housing Officer with a local Housing Association.
Due to personal circumstances I took a career break and during this time decided to enrich my skills and re trained in IT and teaching. For three years I taught IT, Office Administration and Events Management at a further education college in Nottingham City Centre.
Just before embarking on Counselling and Psychotherapy training I worked for Nottinghamshire County Council as a Clerk to Governors supporting primary school governing bodies in the Rushcliffe area.
I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a registered and accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists MBACP. I take my membership seriously and this means that I work in accordance with a strict ethical framework and undertake regular supervision and continual professional development.
Since 2011 I have gained counselling experience working for three charities:
1. New Dawn Family Support Service supporting families who face difficulties with either a child or adult with a life limiting or life threatening condition.
2. At Place2Be offering emotional support in primary school settings to children facing difficulties in their life.
3. With a small independent charity called Coping with Cancer, based in Leicester. As part of a large counselling team I supported people affected by a cancer diagnosis including patients, relatives and carers.
